Bushwig was founded in 2012 by a drag queen named Horrorchata. Bushwig is a festival devoted to drag, music, and love. What began as a one-day event, with about 30 performers in a tiny backyard venue has quickly transformed over the last few years into what is now a two-day festival with more than 200 performances from drag queens, DJs, and musicians. Bushwig was created to give a platform to the community and help create a space for performance artists to showcase and celebrate what drag is to them. Over the years, they have made bigger strides towards that goal and have helped foster a space where "drag" is really redefined.
Drag is always about pushing boundaries. Taking sexuality, politics, gender, race and creating an art form that humors the human experience. In the past, Bushwig had a different logo and graphics each time to go along with the event. There was the unexpected and energetic element to this system that they had. However, as the festival began to grow, I saw the need for Bushwig to redefine itself into an iconic and memorable brand while keeping the same fluidity and energy the festival brought. Bushwig will become a festival easy and accessible for anyone that appreciates drag to go to.
